What's inside the PDF

Every question in the kit was generated and verified by the same engine that mints the ComputePrep daily — the worked steps are the engine's own walkthroughs, not blog prose. Each technique gets its method, a worked example, and four problems to try under 30 seconds each.

1. Vedic squaringEkadhikena for numbers ending in 5: take the part before the 5, multiply it by one more than itself, append 25. 75² → 7 × 8 = 56, append 255625. Yavadunam handles numbers near a base — 88² = 7744.

2. Complementary productsAntyayordashake, for two numbers sharing a leading part whose units add to ten. 43 × 47: front is 4 × 5 = 20, back is 3 × 7 = 21, joined → 2021.

3. Difference of squaresSankalana-Vyavakalanabhyam, for numbers equally spaced about a midpoint. 47 × 53 = 50² − 3² = 2491.

4. Nikhilam multiplication — both numbers near a common base: subtract crosswise for the front, multiply the deficits for the back. 97 × 96 = 9312, in two steps, with no long-multiplication line.

5. Crosswise multiplicationUrdhva-Tiryagbhyam, the general method that works on any pair: units, then cross-multiply and add, then tens, carrying throughout. The × 11 shortcut is its easy variant — 87 × 11 = 957.

6. Paravartya divisionParavartya Yojayet ("transpose and apply"), for division by a divisor near a base: flip the divisor's deviation and use it additively instead of doing long division. 1234 ÷ 11 = 112 remainder 2, worked in one line of running sums.

7. Anurupyena multiplicationAnurupyena ("proportionately"), for numbers near a convenient multiple of a base rather than the base itself: scale to the nearest working base, multiply, then correct back. 46 × 48 = 2208 without a single carried digit.

The speed tables

The last pages are the recall base a prelims paper assumes you already know: the fraction-to-percent table from 1/2 down to 1/12, the squares of 11 to 30, and the cubes of 6 to 15. Read a row a day. These are not tricks — they are the numbers that decide whether a shortcut is available to you at all, because a technique you have to stop and reconstruct has already cost you the time it was meant to save.

Then an answer key for all 28 practice problems, so the kit is self-checking away from a screen.

Is this the Vedic Mathematics book?

No — and it is worth being straight about that, because it is the commonest reason people land here. Bharati Krishna Tirthaji's Vedic Mathematics (1965) is a different work, still in print, and we do not host a copy of it.

This kit is narrower on purpose. Tirthaji's book surveys sixteen sutras across the whole of arithmetic and algebra; most of them will never appear in an IBPS or SSC paper. The seven here are the ones that do, chosen by what the exam actually asks, and each is paired with timed practice rather than left as a curiosity. If you want the scholarship, buy the book. If you want to be faster in the quant section in six weeks, this is the shorter road.

Is the vedic maths PDF really free?

Yes. The download link above has no sign-up, no email and no paywall in front of it. The email box is optional and sits after the download, at demonstrated interest — the PDF is yours either way.

Which vedic maths sutra should I learn first?

Crosswise multiplication (Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam), because it works on any pair of numbers rather than a special shape. The other six are faster but each needs its pattern to be present — numbers ending in 5, units adding to ten, equal spacing about a midpoint, closeness to a base, or a divisor/multiplier near one. Learn the general method first so you always have something, then add the special cases.

Is vedic maths worth learning for bank and SSC exams?

For the shapes that come up often, yes — a squaring or near-base multiplication that takes four written lines becomes one line in your head, and a prelims quant section is decided by the clock. But it is not a substitute for knowing the method each question type needs, which is why this kit ends by pointing you at timed practice rather than at more tricks.
